The sun—it’s a symbol that has held so much significance and has had so many meanings to different groups of people over the course of time. The sun has always been and always will be vital to people. The significance it’s maintained over time is likely the reason why the sun necklace has grown in popularity over the years.
If you’re reading this because you have decided to add a sun necklace to your collection or make a nice gift for loved ones, and you’re not sure where to start in your search, don’t worry. I’m going to be covering a few things to keep in mind for when you start shopping for these timeless pieces so you can find just what you're looking for:

Sun pendant types

Jewelry that compliments your necklace
Getting the Most Bang for your Buck
Once you’ve determined your realistic budget for your sun necklace, you’ll want to find the best quality jewelry you can that fits your target price. Solid gold would be the most ideal material for a sun necklace but solid gold will definitely be much more costly than other materials. For most, it will likely be out of budget due to a high price.
Can't do solid gold?
If your budget isn’t quite high enough so that you can afford solid gold or recycled gold, but you still don’t want to sacrifice quality, gold-plated sterling silver is a great, affordable material you may want to consider. Make sure it is 14k gold plated however.
Benefits of sterling silver
Sterling silver jewelry is hypoallergenic and waterproof, and if you take care of it, it can last your whole life. It’s not the cheapest material out there but for how long you’ll have your sun necklace, the cost is well worth the value. Having your necklace made out of a long-lasting material is essential if you plan on wearing it daily.
At Lucy Nash, all of our jewelry is sterling silver. If you think sterling silver is a good fit for you, I’d recommend our new Sunrise Sun necklace:

This necklace has received so many compliments from our customers and design team. The gold color is something you'll absolutely love.
A step down from is, gold-filled jewelry is one of the most economical jewelry materials out there. Unfortunately, your gold filled jewelry will not last a long time. Gold filled jewelry has a metal base (of typically brass or some other cheap metal) and has a thicker layer of gold than gold-plated jewelry.
Since the layer of solid gold is thicker than gold-plated jewelry, the gold will not wear away as fast. You’ll have to take special care of your gold filled necklace but it still likely won’t last longer than a few months to a year (maximum). Depending on how often you expect to wear this piece, this may be totally acceptable and fit within your criteria.
Sun Pendant Types
There really is no wrong answer when it comes to pendant types for your sun necklace, but you will likely want to consider what silhouette the pendant will have. Your pendant can either have a sun silhouette or the sun can sit within a different shape, such as a circular disc or more rectangular shape. Circular gold coin and rectangular-shaped pendants are really popular and would be great choice for your pendant shape.
Styling your gold sun necklace
Wearing your new gold sun necklace solo is always an option and it will likely fit your mood and the occasion at times. For example, for daily wear you may not have as much time or may not want to stack on the jewelry, so sticking with just your sun necklace would be a great choice.
I’d recommend layering in 1-2 necklaces for occasions such as for a night out with your girls or date night. Feel free to play with the thicknesses of the chains. For example, if your sun necklace chain is more dainty and thin, add in a necklace with a chunky chain, or vice versa.
In Summary
I’m so glad you’ve decided to pick up a gold sun necklace! It will be a great staple to add to your jewelry collection and is absolutely beautiful.
As you shop, to ensure you pick the right piece for you, remember to keep in mind your budget and the quality of metals used to make the jewelry, various types of sun necklaces, and how you’ll want to style your jewelry. Make sure you look at the reviews from a good website. I hope these tips help!
